A Word About Door Operators

Doors in high traffic locations such as supermarkets usually use full-energy operators, where the door is opened and closed quickly by a sensor. Full-energy operators have stringent safety and accessiblity standards, requiring a more complex setup compared to low-energy operators. Low-energy operators are not controlled by a sensor, but instead a physical switch.

Low-Energy operators limit the door opening speed and force, increasing safety. These doors are activated using a “knowing-act” meaning that a push plate, card reader, or keypad must be used before a door is opened. Safety is increased because the user must take a deliberate action before the door is opened. The use of a knowing-act door operator can be less expensive to implement in smaller operations.
